Gerald Versluis

Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft

Meet Gerald Versluis, software engineer at Microsoft, who wields the power of .NET MAUI to conquer any project that comes his way. With a career spanning over a decade, he's tackled it all, from frontend to backend and everything in between, using Azure, ASP.NET, and all the other .NET goodies. But it wasn't until he discovered the magic of Xamarin that he truly fell in love with mobile and cross-platform development, becoming an active community member and sharing his knowledge through writing, tweeting, and presentations. When he's not saving the world of software, you can find him on Twitter @jfversluis, blogging at https://blog.verslu.is, or making videos on his YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/GeraldVersluis.

I’m a Software Engineer at Microsoft. I Don’t Write Code.

Introductory and overview English

Software development was never about code. I used to define myself by the languages I knew and the frameworks I mastered. Then AI started writing most of my code for me, and... Why should I even care anymore what language or framework is being used anymore? I’ll be honest: I was an AI skeptical. The early tools felt like overhyped autocomplete. But today, I use AI every single day. Not as a gimmick, not as a replacement, but as a force multiplier. These days, I sometimes go days without even opening my IDE, and somehow, I’m more productive than ever! In this keynote, I’ll share my journey from skeptic to AI-native engineer, what actually changed in my daily work, and why this shift has less to do with tooling and more to do with thinking. When syntax becomes cheap, clarity becomes the real skill. This isn’t a hype talk. It’s not a doom talk. It’s about understanding that software engineering was never about typing code. It was always about solving problems — and AI just made that impossible to ignore.
